The Mixed Integer Process Optimization Group at Åbo Akademi University
aims at solving problems in the fields of process systems engineering.
Process synthesis, production optimization and development of
numerical methods for solving mixed-integer non-linear programming
(MINLP) problems are central topics.
The research, which is also carried out in co-operation with
several other groups in the MINLP-field, provide results that can be
applied to solving complex industrial problems. Trim-loss and
scheduling problems in the paper converting and metal industry, production
scheduling in the pharmaceutical industry and optimization of heat
recovery systems for paper machines are examples of practical
process synthesis and planning problems.
